Bamboo Forever There is a renaissance with the classic cane rods of yesteryear. Bamboo rods are part of our heritage. Maybe it was found in a garage sale, or maybe it was Granddad’s favorite trout rod. Perhaps it is a wall hanger for the office of den. No Matter. Lovely cane deserves to be preserved for all time. Rare and valuable classic rods made by Payne, Gillum, Halstead, Hawes, Leonard and the like deserve careful restoration. They have historic and collectible value that are worth every dollar invested. Other makers such as Divine, Heddon, Goodwin Granger, Phillipson and Wright & McGill and others are also worth restoration. Rods by other makers such as Chubb, Montague, Shakespeare, South Bend, Horrocks-Ibbotson are most likely still fishable. Some rods have simply sentimental value and likewise need the same careful attention. Whatever the case, we will carefully inspect the rod, determine its condition, age, and through careful research from our vast library of reference materials, work on your prize as if it were our own. The question of whether to preserve the originality of the rod may depend on its intended use. We believe the best rule is to keep every rod as original as possible. If a rod is truly restored, you should be unable to distinguish the new work from the original maker. Any change from the original specs is a refinish. In truth, any restored rod is not original, but as original. All rods are worth restoring. The value may be perceived in way other than how many dollars it would fetch at sale, but the value is there nonetheless. This is Bamboo Forever:
